Employee Spotlight – Al “Meecho” Tate
WE are blessed with many dedicated and committed team members at Butler’s Pantry, but one individual deserves a well-earned “shout out.” Al Demetris Tate, know to all as Meecho! Meecho joined Butler’s Pantry on March 5, 1997 as a young man looking to find a career. When he joined us, we were just a small social and business caterer located in a small building along Arsenal street on the city’s South side. Having worked his way thru many jobs and unique situations at BP, Al has grown into a major player within our group. It would be safe to say that both Butler’s Pantry & Al Tate have grown up together. Many Chefs might have more formal education than Meecho, but few have his experience and devotion to doing things right. I know that Chef Greg, Chuck and Chad count on Al every day to ensure that food production remains at the highest level. As important, Meecho is considered part of the “Big 3” at Café Madeleine. He along with Tim Zingrich and Fatima have been part to the 16 year legacy they have helped to develop every Sunday at the Piper Palm House.
No spotlight would be complete without a mention of Al’s family, a loving husband & father committed to his wife Mya and their children (Almya, Allesha, Alalmesha, Demarion, Demetris).
Cheers to Al Meecho Tate!

Staff Appreciation Notes
“Meecho has been a part of the Butler’s family for over 20 years. He started here as a dishwasher and worked his way up, learning as much as he could along the way. Not only is he valuable in the kitchen , but he is a dedicated family man to his wife and kids. Meecho is loyal, always on time, willing to help others, professional and has a great attitude at all times. He is also very funny and everyone in the kitchen loves being around him. Meecho is a very important part of what makes Butler’s Pantry so successful and we are very lucky to have him as a part of our team.”
-Chef Greg Ziegenfuss, Executive Chef
“Meecho has come a long way since his first days here as a dishwasher. I started to notice how hard of a worker he was and starting pulling him out to do prep in the kitchen. From there I started to gradually teach him how to cook and his skills in the kitchen were very admirable. I’d say he’s incredibly important to the kitchen at Butler’s and one of the most responsible workers I know. Besides his skills in the kitchen, he is a good friend and takes great care of his family. Meecho is very deserving of this recognition.”
-Chef Ray Noonan, Prep Chef
“Meecho is the kind of guy everyone wants on their team. He is encouraging, a motivator, team player, and gets the job done. He will always make sure you have a smile on your face. It’s so refreshing to get to work with people like Meecho. Congrats on this recognition!”
-Caroline Ritter, Butler’s Boardroom Coordinator
“Aside from Meecho’s professional accomplishments, I have many great memories working with Meecho, especially from traveling together for culinary events in Aspen a few years ago. He is dependable and hard-working and I couldn’t imagine BP without him.”
-Chef Chad Vanderleest, Venue Chef de Cuisine
“Meecho is the kool to my aid and the sun to my shine. He is dependable, a fast worker, and overall a fresh breath of air. Best of all, he makes the best omelettes in the entire world! Well done, my friend and keep up the good work.”
-Natalie Small, Sous Chef
